History The National Security Cutter (NSC) was designed to be the flagship of the fleet, capable of meeting all maritime security mission needs. As the largest and most technically advanced class of cutter in the Coast Guard, it will be outfitted with the small boat package and aviation detachment most appropriate for that particular patrol, but will typically deploy with an Multi-mission Cutter Helicopter (MCH) and two Vertical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (VUAVs).
