Focke-Wulf 190D-9: III/JG 6, Welzow, Defence of the Reich, March 1945
Description
The FW 190D Langnasen-Dora, (Longnose Dora) was developed to replace the radial engined Focke-Wulf 190A, which by 1943-44 was becoming outclased by the latest allied fighters. The new fighter was a marriage between the FW190A airframe and the Junkers Jumo inverted V12 engine in a new longer cowling and an annular radiator. Due to longitudinal instability the rear fuselage was also lengthened with the first three prototypes flying during March 1942.
