This is the Supermarine Spitfire Mk VB of 602 (City of Glasgow) Sqn, based at Redhill, Surrey in May 1942. It was flown by Sgt. Bill Loud and had been presented to Britain by Queen Salote of Tonga. The Mk V was a more powerful version of the Mk 1 and entered service in 1940. The engine was a Merlin 45 producing 1,450 hp at 9000 feet. Maximum speed was 369 mph and range on internal fuel was 470 miles. Wingspan: 36 ft 10in, length: 30ft 6in, height: 11ft 5in.
