Also known as Natal Plum, this scrambling, spiny shrub is widespread throughout Eastern Africa, from Southern Egypt to Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, down to Northernmost South Africa. It is the most commonly found shrub in bushland savannah. Carissa is used to treat malaria, intestinal worms and as pregnancy painkiller.
