This photo shows the Koutoubia mineret with the High Atlas mountains in the background. This mineret was completed in the latter part of the 12th century. This tower is said to be the most perfect and most beautiful of its kind. It was the first of what were to be the three principal mosques of the 'western' world. The other two were the Giralda in Seville, Spain and the Hassan in Rabat, Morocco. The tower is 42 feet square and 226 feet high.
