| The diffuse map for the UV-mapped trunk is found below (if you are downloading the 3ds zip file). All materials and maps are included in the max archive. Each needle is a welded set of seven polygons, arranged in clumps to give the tree realistic bulk and shadows. I know the poly count is high, but required for a realistic tree. Other realistic pines available; search for 'pine tree.' There is a total of 250 objects - all are named appropriately for ease of selection. Of the 250, 201 comprise the balls (67 total balls, 3 objects each, and can be assigned different materials). There are two sets of garland, just hide one or the other when rendering (one set named garland01-garland10, another set named garland11-garland20). The glow effect around the star object was achieved post-render. **Important:** No materials are included or required (with the 3ds file), with the exception of the trunk (which has a texture map - see below). The needles, branches, balls, tinsel, garland, and star were simply given a diffuse color, and specularity level. Textures were not used to achieve the appearance of needles... they are actual modeled needles. Textures were also not used with the tinsel, garland, and balls (even the hooks that hang them). The max file includes all materials and textures. All but the last 4 thumbnails were rendered with the default scanline; the last 4 with Mental Ray. |
