| The Chain Whip illustrated here was in use in the castle of Nuremburg. It is an example of the myriad whips in use throughout Europe for torturing the accused. This whip consists of a sturdy wooden handle carved with indentations for a better grip and three chains of seven links each. The links were forged with flat, sharp edges in order to more quickly remove the flesh from the back. |
