This is the 'Torus Knot' plugin object. A Torus Knot is a simple mathematical operation graphed in 3 dimensions. Think of it as a string, being wrapped around a donut. The number of times the string makes an 'orbit' around the donut, and the number of times it does it per trip around the donut are named 'P' and 'Q' in knot theory. These values, and several others are animatable using this plugin.See the free streaming media files for a preview of all the lovely objects that can be created by the interaction of the parameters. Demo1 shows the variation of the number of faces on the knot. Demo2 shows the variation of the number of faces along the path. Tk8.5 shows a P=8 Q=5 object with a multi-subobject map to color each of the faces along the knot. The object can be fully uvw mapped by turning on that option. The plugin works with either Max 5 or Max 6. It may work with max 4.2 or later but is untested. |
