The Romans produced some quite advanced military machinery, made possible by their considerable skill in engineering. Many of these complicated yet efficient devices disappeared from use during the descent into the Dark Ages, as the technical expertise of the empire declined.
Obviously meaning 'scorpion', this was smaller than the ballista and fired bolts about 2ft long. Some variants had a quick loading mechanism where the bolts fell into place after the previous one was fired. This enabled a kind of machine-gun action. Very hi-detailed object.
