| This is an accurate, detailed, architectural model of London’s most famous landmark, Battersea Power Station. This monumental building was built in two stages, Station A, the west half, in 1927, then in 1953 was completed with the addition of Station B, and stood as the largest brick building in Europe, at 100m in height. Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, famous for Bankside Power Station (now Tate Modern), the Houses of Commons, and the Albert Memorial (All available from the London Landmarks Collection, a set of 33 of London’s most famous buildings and monuments, available as a set, or separately from Turbo Squid.). The Power Station was eventually decommissioned in 1983, and has laid a derelict shell since, during which it has gained much public affection, and a grade 2 listing. Property Developers, Parkview International have taken on the exciting challenge of redevelopment, whom the author of this model worked for as head of CGI. The model contains all of the external skin of the building at the stage of its operational life, and also includes interior detail of Turbine Hall A, a magnificent, tiled Art Deco Chamber, complete with industrial cranes and turbine machinery. Also available is the Battersea Riverside Jetty, where coal was brought via the river Thames and lifted onto huge conveyor belts by massive cranes.
