For those of you that already did a few map compilations with Tempest, you know that it is done with a program called Q3MAP that you get by installing GTKRadiant or Radiant (which at the same times install another program not being used by Tempest at all). To D_Fast's request and to those who want too, I'll post here how to setup Tempest to use a new version of that compiling too, Q3MAP2.
Q3MAP2 is a regularly updated and maintained tool (as oposed to Q3MAP which nobody has done anything on it for a long time). It has improvements over the old Q3MAP for things like : lighting tricks/improvements, terran generators helps, faster compilintg (%50-2500% faster), real shadows/ligthing on things that the old Q3MAP couldn't do, ... The list goes on.
The usage of Q3MAP2 is recomanded for mapers who either have theire compiling time going toooo looooonnngggg, or need special things done to theire map that the regular Q3MAP tool cannot (if you are not sure, ask here and I'll try to answer you).
Now one thing to be cleared, if you do use Q3MAP2 with Tempest, do not go and post in the Q3MAP2 forum thread at Quake3World's site. About 75% of the times, the problems you will have with it can be fixed very easily. We don't want to have unnecessary posts there that will clug up theire thread with silly questions or things that do not even concern bug. That other forum thread is strickly for bugs. So please, do not go post there without first asking here. If there is any posts to do there, I prefer to do it myself. I've been there a couple times already so I sort of know them a bit byt now.
Ok, once I get home, I'll post the procedure on how to install and use Q3MAP2. |
