Using duel monitors
Posted 05-Apr-2002 8:21 AM

Hi all.
I would like to know if anyone is using a duel monitor setup for Gmax? If so which video card would be a good recommendation? Also is it possible to create a custom UI that will allow the menus and sub-menus to be placed on the second monitor to free up workspace for the view ports.

Any input on this matter would be a big help.

Thanks in advance

I use 2 30" screens on a Radeon VE card. It supports Open GL as well as D3D.

Yes you can float the toolbars to the second screen, actaully I have it pull over so that the 4 views take one screen and the main controls are on the other.

But you need deep pockets to get a setup like this, not sure how much it cost. When I am working I use it to create map sand cross sections. So the IT guys had to get me the best. I asked once and they said the card was around $3000 (it's great for work, and at lunch time it runs stuff like T2 and CS great )

Hey there Fuzzy Bunny. Thanks for the reply.
Boy you aren?t joking about the DEEP pockets. I found a really nice 3Dlabs card that runs about $1800.00 dollars. I will have to wait for that kind of hardware. Eventually though I will move in this direction. Thanks again for your input.

I don't think using dual monitors is as beneficial to 3d modeling as they are to video editing... Or anything having to do with long timelines... (maybe if you're dealing with 3d animation... but not really)... So... if you have that much money to spend, I recommend a good 21 inch CRT monitor and maybe a Quadro vid card... that in itself kicks the hell out of any dual head card... but I may be mistaken... (if you didn't know... NVIDIA's Quadro DCC chipset is made specifically for 3ds MAX..) <!--TSHIDE<img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />-->
