What's appropriate_from a newbie

Hi All, I'm a graphic designer and new to all this 3D stuff but I would like to take up the challenge of exploring all the aspects of 3D. The question is about the appropriateness of my asking how a particular movie file was created and with which programs. Is this allowed in this forum/community? or is that regarded as somehow 'stealing' someone elses secrets? I have Poser Pro, Adobe Creative Suite and Macromedias Studio 8. I'm also considering buying Cinema 4D. I am running an Intel iMac / 2.4Ghz with 2GB ram.

Would anybody care to make any comments or suggestions about my software or hardware? While I'm at it you can see what I'm trying to achieve, if you're interested:

It's completely askable... it's been asked before, though I'm not sure which forums... maybe general 3D... or the specific application forms... I'm guessing general 3D would be a good forum for it though.

Maybe do a forum search as well.

I have to admit, I was starting to feel like a jerk with leprosy for having asked the question. Even a 'No, you scumbag copycat!' would have at least given me an answer! I will look around the forum more. Thanx again!

Thanks zaphad1, I heard using 3D software was a steep learning curve, and have to admit, that's how I'm finding it. I using the tutorials at the moment and am hoping, like mud, that some of it will stick! Regards
