conversion files to *.MAX
Posted 17-Jul-2008 5:19 AM

Hi,

Is there any cheap way how to convert my files (mostly obj or blender files) to *.max ? I dont need much options, just mesh, materials and UV maps

I have some ideas:

1) Is it possible to buy some old (and cheap) version of 3dsmax? If yes - where?

2) Is it legal to sell files converted in 30-days free trial version of 3dsmax?

3) Is there some convertor. I mean open my file and export as *.max? Is it possible to buy some conversion software which can make MAX? (not much expensive)

I dont need some fbx or similar format, now I really need *.max file (but only mesh, basic material settings and UV is needed)

Thank much for any help

Hi Alfons,
  I'll get the ball rolling.
These are the files you can import into max. Then save as .max.

  No

Yes. I think the problem is "saving" files with the trial version.

Back to Q. 1. Import your .obj file and save as .max. I don't know of any converters that work. There's usually a problem with materials or something. Maybe some one else can help here.

Don't forget about gMax. It's free and and may work out better than max7.Do a lot of searching. There are many game packs for file converting, like Tempast.

example poser
open the file if you can in poser when its open on the poser file click on export as a obj file choose a single file it says (start frame 1 to end frame 30) click on ok the next part is you select the hierarchy selection i usually uncheck the gorund plane cos there is already on in 3ds max. then you click on ok next is export as lightwave change the file save as i put save to desktop choose a save file name then click save this will save to your desktop if you save it there. open up 3ds max

3ds max
Click file import slect file to import from I save mine on my desktop click the drop down menu on type of file lok for wavefront object select that select the file you exported from poser click open then it says obj importer import options if you have a single file then pu the dot in there. or more then 1 object then put the dot muli on the right side you see geometry make sure these are all checked. apart from center pivot under that you see material check that. then click okay now the should is imported from poser into max.

you cannot import textures from poser into max they are two different programs you need to re-add the texture
