depth of field (DOF) and Mental Ray

Howdy

Would someone please advise how i get better renderings with depth of field? Depth of field rendering with Mental Ray. It only reads as such

"keep playing with the f-stop" - a got it, but it's still very grainy as you folks can see because I put a little picture down below.
That would be nice if you know some special settings to get rid of that sand everywhere.

i think it's a matter of how many rays you want to include in the Final Gathering or the GI .

much more means much accurate in render .

Actually all you need to do is increase your sampling quality in the mental ray's Renderer rollout.

The defaults are 1/4 minimum and maximum 1, I would suggest bumping this up to 4 minimum and 16 maximum for a much cleaner effect. Also, try using a different filter than the default 'box' filter. I generally use Mitchell for a better image at the cost of slightly higher render times.
