animation/ vehicles/ traffic simulation
Posted 23-Apr-2008 10:53 AM

I have 3D Studio Max 9, Civil 3D, and Vissim 4.3.
I would like to take my 3d model of a highway interchange from Civil 3d, and the traffic simulation model from Vissim, and create an animation in using 3D Studio.
I understand that the Vissim software will export an ASCII text file that has all of the coordinates for the vehicles every tenth of a second.
I also understand that MAXscript will import this data.
What I don't understand is how to link the 3d vehicle models in 3D Studio to the specific vehicle entries in the MAXscript file. Any help from anyone who has done something similar would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
David

I'm not sure how off hand...

I'm wondering if you can use the Merge Animation feature to bring in an animation clip and assign it to a vehicle (or maybe better... a dummy object to link a vehicle to)...

Another possible option which I've never used and think 'may' help, is using a Position List controller and/or a Rotation List controller... I've never used them or read up on them, but it's something to explore...

This would be nice to know about... hope you find a solution...

first , why you dont directly animate with 3ds ?

second , read the help for maxscript , they explain everything about animation controllers and other features .

main thing must be known :: an animation is a compositing of three major domains : Translation+ Rotation+Size (scale)

each domain has many algorithms , such as Bezier or TCB or seperate XYZ algorithm .

and each algorithm has its own caller in maxscript . read the help , it helps you a lot .

third , there is a plugin , i think it is called " something_behavior " ((((( something = the word i forgot ! ))))),this plug is made to simulate the traffic of many interacting objects ( people traffic , traffic jam and street transpassing , ... )

Well it depends as to the resolution that you might be trying to get I have don it as a incidental backdrop because the camera was moving just as well which greatly incresed the speed of the effect then I added a motion blur to it and it cmae out ok. I mean that you did see it it was noticable but it was not the focus of the camera angle so it was surfice for what I was doing. Hope that helped a bit. Eddie
