No you have not mis-read. I am currently doing a test. I want to move away from Windows and use my Ubuntu O/S instead. What is Ubuntu ? It is one of the most popular Linux O/S out there (Dell adopted it as a 2nd O/S for clients). So I am currently testing installing Windows-XP as a Virtual Machine running under Ubuntu. Since I am doing this, I needed to test a Windows XP graphic application running in this. So I chose GMAX ! What this all means is running any Windows application in a Linux native system through a process called Virtual machine. All operating system are actualy guest system running on a host system. The way to do this is to have any operating system (O/S) running in a virtual way on a host system. I currently have Windows-XP and Ubuntu running as dual boot but want to have Ubuntu as my main O/S and Windows-XP as a guest virtual O/S running in Ubuntu (meaning in a seperate window in Ubuntu). My main worries are graphic applications (3dmax, gmax, games, ...) not working properly in this matter so that is why I am doing a test installation in my Ubuntu. I managed to install a functional Windows XP (from my XP installation CD!) in Ubuntu through a software called Virtualbox. So I have Windows XP in a window running in Ubuntu (with all windows updates done too !). Now I am about to install GMAX in it and see how well it behaves. I will report back with the result. You can also check my general progress on the whole thing in THIS Ubuntu forum thread. By the way, I am currently creating this Turbosquid thread via Internet Explorer 7 runnin in my Virtual Windows XP !!! Why do I want to leave Windows ? Because I am sick of it and tired of never having money to buy software. Besides, as Windows is currently in a decaying state amongst all business/users, either they do major changes to the way the create/distribute/update/license Windows OR they will slowly die !!!
