Hi CosmaThreeDee,
I'm not 100% sure about R9.012 but I think you can also find the script manager in the main menu under "Window => Script Manager".
As for the image planes: There are several solutions for this. If you just need the image plane for references or blueprints to work on (and no render output), you can use the viewport configuration. To do this, activate the viewport you want to edit and hit Shift+V or select "Edit => Configure" from the viewport menu. The attribute manager will then show you some tabs related to that viewport. Within the "Back" tab you can choose and adjust an image for it.
If you need an image plane for render output, you can use the background object. Create it by selecting "Objects => Scene => Background" and apply a material (including a texture) to it.
Hope this helps a little bit. Good luck with your first steps in Cinema 4D! I think you will like it after getting used to it (although I have to say that Release 10 is really MUCH better than R9).
Regards, Onur
