Texture w/o the skeleton
Posted 06-Mar-2008 1:52 PM

I didn't notice a similar post else where, so pardon if there was. However, I've manage to come along a group in my school that's trying to build a game, the lead man wants me to texture for him. I'm fairly new at this but I've been viewing some 3ds max/zbrush/adobe tutorials, so I get the idea.  Now please before telling me I should go back to the dude and tell him to give me models, is there a way around it? I just want him to like my texture, later I can always fit it to whatever model he's got. Yes more work, but hey this is school sponsered and student ran half of them donno WTH they doing, and this guy we're just going on an "idea" and running with it.

So I'm just wondering should I make my own make-shift model? (starting 3d modeling class monday) or just come up w/ some 2d pattern on adobe and pray it looks ok when thrown on the model? I'd really hate to do that because w/o the speculation I can get from max I won't know where MY errors are.

Any help would be much appericated, and sweet site.. think this place might help me through this school.

You need to corner the guy and get some definite ideas on exactly what he wants and what its for exactly, as much info as possible. Ask him what  sort of size he wants these textures, do they need to be based on photos etc that kind of thing

I haven't a clue what programs you're both using for modelling and texturing but the odds are you'll neeed to optimise them right down to a small file size.

Point out that you cant do a decent job without the information and yes the models would be v handy.

If you get stuck, post on here ,people will help you but the texture forum doesnt have many people who look at it so you could try a different forum and apologize if its the wrong one.

Good luck with it.
