advice on modeling pipe threads

Good day.
I am trying to put pipe threads on this 3D modeling im working on....
I tried creating a Helix and extruding along the path. but then my command line that I am unable to extrude selected object.... ??? i dont know.... any help here would be awesome.

Isn't the same as inventor there is a tool for holes and if you go to the next tab after setting the depth it gives you certain options for threading and so on. Try looking in the user Ref under tools, threading, holes or bolts
