Who know where to find the Makemdl file ?
Posted 15-Aug-2007 5:35 AM

Hi, I'm a FS 2002 owner and don't have the way to export model from Gmax into it because the avalaible Makemdl file which is included with FS 2002 doesn't sound to be compatible with Gmax 1.2.

Everytime I try to export model as a mdl. or a blg. file, the "Makemdl was not found, or failed to convert the model specified in C:\gmax[...] to a MDL. file. Check your system path to ensure MakeMDL is on it."message appears even if the aplication in question is put correctly at the required place matching with the system path.

I saw somewhere that the Gmax 1.2 compatible version of it is included in the  "new" Flight Simulator SDK avalaible on this link since 2002 .But it isn't there.I don't know what have they done with the SDK:where did they put it ??

So, it's impossible to import anything in fs 2002 from gmax 1.2.Who can send me the appropriate MakeMDL?Is it another way to export something from Gmax to Flight Simulator ?

You can export a model to FS2002 from gmax 1.2 after installing the FS2004 Makemdl SDK/gamepack.

DOwnload the FS2004 from this location (links to the Microsoft downloads area)

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/local_links.php?catid=11

USE the FS2002 Pro documents/makemdl.sdk to create your model, even if you have the FS2004 gamepack installed.  Most importantly *DO NOT USE* any of the FS2004 gamepack's XML "special"  animation tags because FS2002 will not support them and crash.

Hi,

I would simply use the Fs2002 MakeMDL when you are working for Fs2004. The Fs2004 output is not directly useable in Fs2002, so that would make things only more complex.

The error you are getting has nothing to do with MakeMDL not being compatible with GMax 1.2. Often this error is caused by a wrong setting on your system, the gamepack for example requires that you have the decimal character of your windows set to a dot, while in many countries the comma is the default setting.

Also make sure that you download the latest MakeMDL for Fs2002 from MS, it is much better than the version included on the Fs2002 disks.
