LW - BodyPaint 2
Posted 13-Jun-2007 10:59 PM

Hello there,

I've done the tutorial of Robin Konieczny and I can't solve a little isue. In the tutorial, the model sended to BodyPaint from LW looks smooth, like the subpatched model in lightwave, but my model looks like the version without subpatch applied.

I can't find a preference for the dysplay of the model as a subpatched one. Any Idea?

Thanks in advance,

Sergio

The gist of it is, that C4d (and BP) uses a Hypernurbs modifier from The Tools/Objects menu, then in the Object tree, just drag the object onto the Hypernurbs item.

You can then set the properties of how the subdivision looks in the editor in much the same was as in LW.

Thanks a lot mkiii. You are very kind. I'll test it right now.

I should point out that you get at the properties of the object & hypernurbs via the attributes tab or via the Attributes Window, and that when you send the object back to LW the Hypernurbs object is discarded, so it is safe to use.

All this is assuming that you are using the modeler to BP Exchange plugins, because importing the object directly into BP from disc may alter it in ways that you don't want.

[edit] Oh I see you have it all figured out ;)
yes it does add an awful lot of functionality to LW doesn't it.

Well, I'm really impressed. I've worked for years as a modeler and I did not have time to practice those tools. I mean, although I'm an advenced modeler in LW, in texturing I'm a basic to internediate user.
I know the concepts, but the tools are something new to me.

By the way, do you know a good tutorial about Normal and Displacement Maps using C4D/LW?

Cheers,

Sergio

I can't say I do offhand. I have been doing that sort of thing in LW itself, or in Modo, or just using the NVidia plugin for photoshop.

It's always worth looking on the Newtek Lightwave forums if you aren't already, and I'm sure there must be a few accessible from the Maxon site.

From what I can see, the basic creation of a normal map for a uv mapped object is pretty straight forward (render/bake Texture) just select the options you want in the attributes panel such as evaluate bump, normal & then the method of  Normal map, such as tangent & hit bake. Then it saves a file to disk incorporating bumps etc.

I'm not sure that C4d can do high to low normal map baking tho. You might have to dig around for that.

Well, at this point I'm testing a "triunvirate": LW-ZBrush-C4D. The results are nice but I'll know the real power just developing a weird hard-textured head trying to get a good look in macro shots.
I think I'll do a test tomorrow. My eyes are hanging...

Your help was really helpful. Thanks for you patience... :)
