I hade that problem before, try making a box (or bone, i guess it could be anything) named "frame" and use the link tool to link all of your objects ( your weapon or map or vehicle) to the "frame" object. This should allow it to export correctly.

And  i think that the bluestreak jms exporter is a little better here it is if you wanna try it instead of chimp
