You can import .3ds models into Poser through the main file menu, without problem. I'm not sure they bring their texture information with them, though. What you CAN'T do is import .max files, as these are 3DS Max's proprietary scene file types - only Max can open them.

As to whether or not D|S can import .3DS, I'm afraid I can't help you. But like I said, nethier of them can open .MAX files.

How do you convert .3ds files to .max files? I need to do this to use a paint program which requires .max files.

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, the only software that can save out files as .max is 3DS itself.

It is a little unclear as to what you are intending to actually convert, and into what format..? Assuming that you have a 3ds file to begin with, it can import directly into either Poser or 3DSmax... If it is a .MAX file, then it would have to be opened with 3DSmax and then re-exported as a more compatible format, such as .OBJ.

DAZstudio will not accept 3ds format but will easily import any .CR2/.PZ2/etc native Poser format, as well as any mesh converted to .OBJ.

There are several other programs that can convert between 3ds and .OBJ formats (such as Ultimate Unwrap3D or Milkshape3D) that are quite economical if that is the direction you need to go, but more or less if you are talking .MAX format then you are gonna need 3DSmax...

Hi, I am interested in purchasing a model here, but I currently use Poser 7.  The item is in .3ds format, and I am aware that Poser can import this, but I have heard about it not importing the textures.  Is there a way to get the textures into poser from a .3ds file, in any way?  The item that I am looking to purchase is over $100, so I don't want to purchase it unless I can somehow import the textures as well.

thanks

You can export the textues as wafefront object from 3DSMax.

The process to import a 3ds file into poser with textures must be done from Max exporting the model as wavefront object.

Hope this info will be usefull for you
