180 degree light dome?
Posted 01-May-2007 3:19 PM

hi i went to a 3d program presentation a long time ago and in there they had a simple block model of a lego brick (nice and dull n boring :P ) anyway they rendered it needless to say it looked crap then they showed a rendering of the same lego brick and it looked sooo real they said they created something i think they refered to as a 180 degree light dome which apprently mimics real world lighting in the sense a object in the real world has light hitting it in multiple directions and this is the principle of there technique.  Is anyone familiar with this? i do not know know how to create this i mean i guessed and tried creating a 180 degree light dome using an array of spot lights which are formed into a half sphere shape but this did not work and it took ages to render something as small as 10cm. I need help in this matter, anyone?

Check out the LW manual, I'm pretty sure it has some useful info, and take a look here for a simple example of a skydome (actually it uses a sphere, but the same principle applies) :-

Take a look at the other stuff on there too. I'm sure you'll find it useful.
