which is better?
Posted 09-Apr-2007 4:49 PM

Ive been going back an forth with spline and box modeling. Say I want to model a alien head from a side and a front reference picture which way is best to model? Which is easyer and which has best detail? Do you know where I could find good tutorials for modeling to a reference picture?

hi - first of all you need to forget about spline modeling and box modeling - subdivision is the right geometry for organic models. if you're advanced user I dont need to explain about it. If not - you need to learn basics from tutorials http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/tutorials/index.php

if you have licensed copy of lightwave you can ask newtek support for help. If not - buy it!

cheers

Seraph

Nurbs are the way to go, less polys for the general shape. You can always add more later, this is also better to use in a app like Z-Brush 3.0 later on.

best way is to combine different styles and/or make your own as you go.  For organic modelling, look to the Inside Lightwave books at the head turorial section.  Even the old Inside LW 6 book has some useful advice, and can be gotten cheaper or found in library easier than the newer ones.. but get the newer ones in to your hands if you can.
