Why is 3ds more popular than C4d?
Posted 25-Mar-2007 4:36 AM

Browsing through the product pages reveals a definite trend toward 3ds Max. I've been using Maxon C4d for a while and really like it but can't help feeling that I'm in the minority. Should I export by projects as 3d studio or just jump ship and get Autodesk 3ds Max?

Hi Steve,

Export your stuff as obj 3ds fbx and c4d, then everyone can use them.

I have also noticed a definite trend yoward 3ds max. It does have a comprehensive toolset and substantial toolset, but I still feel more at home with C4D. Perhaps industry professionals like a few more tools(?), in exchange for a more complex layout.

c4d all the way!!!!!!!!!!

ive tried them all and nothing is as intuitive as c4d is. its like i can just turn on c4d and bgin working but with max ill turn it on and sort of look at that frickin daunting screen overjammed with symbols and buttons and it makes me just wanna turn that thing off and goto c4d!
o yea umm i got a question? what pipelines are you guys using? im trying to get my studio up and running i wanna make sure my group is utilizing only timesaving additions
(note:i work on little animation shorts, visual fx and game design)

o yea to answer your question seriously tho,3ds max isnt the most popular it just depends how much those who say so get paid to say it is. remember all companies have to do some dirty business to make their products sound good

I think that the professionals generally hold max in high regard. But much of the acclaim probably comes from the fact that it comes from a brand name company. Autodesk has almost every imaginable type of CAD program there is. So the people in the business often turn to the big companies. And since many students are trained on max, that's naturally what they'll want to use later on.

This might change some in the not too distant future. C4D seems to have a leg up with it's integration with Adobe's CS3. C4D's UI has always reminded me of Adobe, anyway. I can jump between photoshop and C4D and feel like I've been working in one program instead of two already. That's even more so with V10.1 of C4D and CS3. They almost plug right into one another.

Yeah ! Cinema 4D rules ! there are more 3ds because max it`s older but not necessarily better ;) so what in minority with .c4d files ? if you are good enough that doesn`t matter ! i`ll stick to Cinema 4D no matter what ! i love it ! :D

good luck
