Welcome to the Tentacles Feedback Forum. Tentacles is a free plug-in gives you the ability to browse through, purchase and import 3D models and textures directly within your 3D application without the need to launch additional software! It is designed to streamline your workflow by making it easier and faster to find, download, purchase, and use content from Turbo Squid. After downloading a model you can drag and drop straight from Tentacles into the viewport of the 3D application, you can even import the new object straight into your existing scene. Tentacles also allows you to save your payment information in order to make purchasing faster and easier. And you can create a wish list of items from your shopping cart to save them for later. For convenience, Tentacles also stays logged in for as long as you want; no more timed-out sessions.
This first version is the beginning of a platform that we will extend to help 3D artist workflow in as many ways as possible. Please let your imagination run wild with the possibilities. This should behave like a fun application more than a website.

Well , I am quite impressed with this application and it looks like it will make the workflow really easy to use for us 3D application users who purchase these assets. I can't wait to see what you come up with those of us that create the models. The application designers of this plug-in should be commended for the intuitive interface and usable features. Keep those guys on the job as long as you can is my advice!! Cheers, Videovic Garbutt

It sounds so easy, like having thousands of files available without having to go beyond your favorite graphics program.

As we want the user's experience to be stellar from day one, we have the Maya and XSI flavors of tentacles in our QA pipeline right now. It's going to take at least another week before we can add those versions to the download as we have a full test matrix to go through on each version - but you'll be happy to know that their releases are high on my task list.
Sincerely,
-=Beau

Hi, just wanted to ask why there is no possibility in tentacles to search for more products from the same author / artist...?

You can already simply type in the vendor's name into the Search window and hit Search, and it will find all assets by that vendor.
Or are you asking for some other functionality within the search?
Sincerely,

Hi, just seems to be my personal bad luck... I've searched for my own member name ("onur.pekdemir") and it shows no results. :-( Must be the dot in the member name. Other names (without a dot) do work. BTW: Strange thing ist, that searching for my member name on the TS website DOES work.
I think it would be also nice being able to click on the authors name to see his other products (website behaviour).
Cheers, Onur Pekdemir

Thanks for the feedback Onur.
You may have found a bug with the dot naming thing. I'll add that to our fix list and get it into the queue.
I'll also add your wish to click on a vendor's name in an asset and
have it do a new query on that vendor's assets (like the website
behaves).
Keep it coming gang.

Onur - You'll be happy to know that we've already squashed the dot name search issue you found. If you search by "onur.pekdemir" now, it will show you your assets just like everyone else's.
rozenkrantz - You're just seeing the tip of the proverbial iceberg with this release. There are lots of exciting things coming soon... keep watching the site.

I must say that it is exciting to see that you are using FLEX 2 for your new application. I create 3D as well as Web, and I have my preferences. I began using Flex 2 right after it came out in Beta, and I use lightwave, Maya, and Cinema 4D. But my personal Pref is Maya. Just Like Flex. Both programs to me are exciting to use.

Unfortunately GMax is based on the max 4 codebase and will not be supported by Tentacles. The functionality we need from the plug-in wasn't implemented until the Max 7 codebase, so that's as far back as we're going to go.

Maya, XSI and Cinema4D Releases of Tentacles Available
|
|
Posted 24-May-2007 4:37 PM |

|
We're happy to announce that the Tentacles plug-in has just launched for Max 7 users, Maya 7.01 and 8.0 users, XSI 4.2 and 5.11 users and Cinema4D 9.5 users. The same functionality that is in the Max 8/9 versions is now available within all of these other platforms. More platforms are due out later this summer.
As I've said before, this is just the TIP of the iceberg, and exciting new functionality is coming for our loyal vendors and clients alike over the next several months. Keep watching the site.
Sincerely,
-=Beau

Firehawk 9,
gmax is an Autodesk application, so Turbo Squid has no control over whether or not they will update it. IF they were to update it, it would be most certainly based on their current release technology (which in this case would be Max 9).
And IF that happens, then we'd be delighted to add support for it to Tentacles. But that's a LOT of ifs to deal with, and as we're not aware of their plans for gmax at this stage, there is no way to tell for sure what the future holds. For now, if you want to use Tentacles, it will have to be through 3ds Max 7.x, 8.x or 9.x.
Sincerely,
-=Beau

it gives me an xml error in the end of the instalation.
Also when openning max, and when looking for updates, .. well a lots of bugs, im using vista, max9, i think it is about windows vista pathways, or, probably administrator security, because it says it cannot create a "tsout.file" file
