CrossFire???
Posted 28-Dec-2006 1:51 PM

Hi. I don't know where to put this thread so I put it here. I have some request to you. I wanted to connect TV under ATI Radeon X1900XT. I've connected to my PC two monitors till now and thought, that without any problems I can connect my TV under S-VID in the back of my PC, but there's not such capability, because I had to displace my set up between my second monitor and TV. So I can't work on botch monitors and swith on TV for my daughter. Now I don't  know what to do. I heard that there are some adapters which allow to connect more than two monitors to one PC with one graphic card. But I don't know if all of them can display independent image. There is capability to buy second card in system CrossFire but again, differently than in N-Vidia card, you connect both of them outside of cover by external wire. Also I can't find anywhere how many monitors maximum is possible to connect under CrossFire cards. Have you any informations on this theme? I would be thanful for any help and your experience.

Best
Wieslaw

1. What is CrossFire?

A. CrossFire is an industry leading visualization PC platform designed to intelligently scale graphics capabilities by combining multiple ATI Radeon graphics products with CrossFire ready motherboards within a single system to provide the most immersive experience possible. CrossFire redefines the PC platform with industry leading performance and image quality, open flexibility and compatibility. Experience stunning visual realism in today's games with uncompromising image quality, even on your HDTV.

<<<---  As quoted from the CROSSFIRE homepage...I run a single 7800 GT Pro on an Sli Mobo, When I first went to this setup, I heard that there was ALOT of difficulty and bugs in using the Crossfire technology (May have changed since then), but, basically it's a way to setup dual graphics cards (In a way that was intended to combat the speed and performance gains perported with using dual cards on a Sli platform (The technology competitor of Crossfire), for both acceleration and load relief for the CPU and GPU(s) compared to a single card.  Unless you are pretty familiar (Not trying to say you aren't, just for the record) with modifying configurations, you could be in for some trouble...Unless that has also changed, anything  you are doing around Crossfire, you have to set up and configure MANUALLY...Last I heard, there is NO plug and play, straight away, pop in the card and start-er-up means to do it...

There are schools backing both sides of the acceleration and performance wars that are typical to new hardware, so, if you feel game for trying it, I would only urge that you do some investigating, net search and the like and make up your mind what you feel comfortable running with...Hope that helps you to understand how Crossfire works somewhat...

As far as adapters, check out monitor splitters like the units offered by IO Gear, I have several friends who just plit it off "Outside the cover" using them...
