That'd be good. I'll be looking forward to it. However, if this is just an export plugin, why would you need to write tutorials?

Hi there, I've been having some problems with the listed programs. Gmax won't recognize the .MD3 exporter, and I can't get textures in LithUnwrap to import. Anyone know of a solution?

Sorry for the long time to response. I am  working on 12 hours shifts now.

About the MD3 exporter, where did you get it exactly and what error message it is telling you ?

The .MD3 Exporter won't even give me an error message. It won't register as a plugin in Gmax.... Actually, though, I think gmax 1.2 comes with that capability built-in. Hmmm. Maybe I was wrong, but I still need help with the other program. I would appreciate any info.

Another alternative to converting GMAX to other formats would be to export as MD3 then use 3D EXPLORATION 1.5 to convert them to a multitude of other formats with 3DEX. I used GMAX for a while but found a better free modeler called Gamespace Lite to make models with. It supports saving as X files which I needed to then convert to XSI 1.5 (I believe it is) to make models for a game called Battlezone II Combat Commander. I also use another conversion utility called THREED to convert the X to the proper XSI format that BZII uses. Question? Does anyone know if an X exporter is available for exporting from GMAX directly? I like using GMAX but it lacks a suitable X exporter that I've been unable to locate so far. Can a MAXSCRIPT be created to accomplish this? What about an export script for the XSI format as well? Lots of questions huh? Oh...I also converted my GMAX files to MD3 then to X so that I could edited them in GSL for BZII game use...BNG

You can use a program like Milkshape to convert files to .MD3 format and then use Blender3D to import the .MD3's and export them to .X format.

Are you sure that this is relevant to the thread? If the site has nothing to do with format conversion, please do not post it here.

Just a very quick question here... how can i convert a gmax file to either a *.car, *.3ds, *.lwo, *.obj without using
gmax app? I need to convert this model to one of those above formats or even a Hexagon format.

You can't. Even if you could, it would be a violation of the license agreement. You have to use Gmax to export the file into an intermediate format, which can then be exported again into one of those formats.

For a start, you should create a new thread. That will help you get more responses. Also, are you trying to import a .3ds file into gmax? Gmax handles all scenes in .gmax format.

Now what you really need is the Flight Simulator gamepack (see the appropriate forum). This will allow you to export into the appropriate format to be read by the FS API.

Thanx for that. Can you tell me what to do once I get a gmax file from this site. I open it with gmax and how to make it .api      This all is so confusing.

I'm only doing this because I like to help out in the forum. If you're doing to succeed, you have to do some of the legwork yourself.

Now someone over at the appropriate forum would be more qualified to ask this, but do you have makemdl.exe installed in the gmax/plugins directory? If not, get it here.

Hi, beginner here, probably doing something simple and wrong :-).

I use gmax to produce the .md3 file (following gmax tutorials about uv mapping). AZT's instructions (first post)  say to use one of his files to fix the problematic polygons. So, Which file and what steps?

I've tried running the md3compile.exe on the .md3 file: "import objects", "rebuild normals", "export objects". Howerver,  Lithunwrap refuses to read the fixed .md3: file/model/open...."there was an error reading the file." Same thing happens if I just import, export ,and then try to open model in Lithunwrap. Somehow, I am making md3compile screw up the .md3 files, any idea what I should do?

Lithunwrap will successfully read the un-fixed .md3 files generated by gmax.
