The forum help and activety concerning the use of Gmax over at Auran is great. Search 'Gmax' and there are almost 8000 posts, and almost 200 in just the last month. Even before you have full access to post there (before buying a copy of TrainZ Railroad Simulator 2004), just searching and reading may really help any beginner. Go to http://forums.auran.com/TRS2004/forum/default.htm
Additionally there are tutorials on content creation which would help anyone exercise their first uses of Gmax. A great set is by Phil Campbell at http://www.worldoftrainz.com/Pages/Tutorials.htm Another set of tips and a building tutorial is by Gary Parkin at http://www.worldoftrainz-downloads.com/~garyp/ Paul Hobbs even has some basic video tutorials at http://www.44090digitalmodels.de/ under the "tips and hints" tab.
Of course the above suggestions are for those seeking help in a kind and thankful tone. If you have a dis-function issue with Gmax, or just want to complain to someone about it . . . you better go to AutoDesk or TurboSquid.
Remember, there are good tutorials and a deep Help file within Gmax AFTER you download and install them in the Gmax folder on your hard drive. These 14 & 15 MB files are also free but seperate on TurboSquib's main page. The tutorial links above are more direct examples of Trainz content (Locos, buildings, bridges, etc.).
