Hi, I though this subject disucussion would benefit everyone.
I have a frew projects of mine for 3d modeling and even a work in progress movie. They are all from existing concepts that I want to take them further to make them more real. But the problem I have just realized today is the same as the majority of beginners and sometimes more advanced knowledged people (I am not an expert. I am more like an advanced beginner). Until people have passed this limit, theire creations will be ordinary, without life.
Surely they will make other non-3d artist people say "Cool !" but once you show them to experienced people, then the bad critics start happening. It's a good thing. Expect to have bad critics all the time. I for one, hate having good critics because there is always something you could have done better, something you could have added for that extra look, some new knowledge or trick to learn. You get the idea.
After learning and geting better, you come to the point where technical skills aren't enough. You need more for that "Wow!" effect on experienced people. After all, most of you probably want to sell theire art or find a 3d job, right ? Well gaining that special skill will surely help you.
What is it ?
It is that ability to take an ordinary 3d room and add things to it to make it artisticly alive. Its what enables you to take an average troll model and change it into an outstanding troll you would be scared to meet in a dark room. Its what enables you to take the challenge of taking an ordinary car and turn it into a flying space ship.
How do you gain this type of talent, because that's what it is, talent. Well, you gain it either because you are naturally talented, because you have an amazing imagination or you have managed to learn it. If we eliminate naturally talented people and amazing imagination, what do we have left ? Most of us !
So what do we do to learn it ? That's where my thread starts. It is up to you to tell the community how do we managed to learn this. Where do we go ? What do we do ?
Not sure on telling us the answers ? Not a problem. Just ask questions.
You don't know what question to ask ? Not a problem. What are you working on ? Maybe your current project could be used to ask questions like, what is it missing ? How can I make it look more real ? With the answers supplied, it will help people to understand the How to gain that talent.
I know this is a BIG thing as a thread, but I am sure 75% of the GMAX's forum members need this kind of information. Again, don't you want to sell your art or get a 3d job ? |
