Umm... yeah... I went into properties and under target I have exactly
C:\gmax\gmax.exe and when I attempted to add -H it said this "The name
'C:\gmax\gmax.exe-H' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make
sure the path or file name is correct." =( So it is still not working.
And on top of that... after receiving the error message each time gmax
closes itself.
mine dosnt give an error message!!!!!!
What should i do

You have add a space between gmax.exe and -h. In your comment, if you wrote it that way, it won't work.
I just tried it like this with a space between : "'C:\gmax\gmax.exe-h' " and it works. |

I don't know if I have a sevice turned off in win2000 wich gmax needs. At first before registering the little screen will pop up, says enter reg number.
Well I didn't have one, BUT upon exiting my system locks up, or I got like 3 windows stuck on the screen from moving the window, all my icons disappear and task bar becomes an outline.
The only way out is to alt cntrl del, and hit shutdown.
OK so I got a registration it managed to enter, the program runs, BUT once I close the program, it does the sme thing I wrote above.
win2000
ti4600 running at AGP 1x and like mabye driver 81.94? 81. somthing
Nothing running I boot up with 69meg used.
So is there a service wich I need to turn on,ALL other games and programs work fine.
I don't know if this is the correct thread to post this.

Well I just uninstalled then reinstalled the newest nvidia driver, and reinstalled directX 9
Opened program, moved mouse accros top menus, it left a stale menu wich if I could minimize and maximize that type of thing clears away in other programs somtimes, but instead my mouse would't even click to minimize.
Had to reboot, and this program just aint happening AT ALL. |

Check for any LOG files in the GMAX folder.

If I open C:gmaxgmax.ini i only see with note pad
[BitmapDirs] Dir2=C:gmaxdownloads Dir1=C:gmaxmaps
and if I add [WindowState].... than i see cannot create the c:gmaxgmax.ini file make sure that the path and file name are correct
and with wordpad
i see the same and when i add the same and save it i see acces denied (I am administrator)

I never said to add [WindowState]. If you never managed to run gmax at all, then this item may not be there for all I know.
Just do solution A or B. You went right to the most difficult solution without trying the easiest ones.

Why ?
I am having a hard time understanding why the easy way do not work. Please explain exactly what happens when you try to do it the easy way and how you do it (please provide screenshots if you can).

It has to be something like this (use the double quote as printed) :
"C:\gmax\gmax.exe" -h
"C:\program files\gmax.exe" -h
"where ever your gmax.exe is" -h

After saving the shortcut changes you have just done, make sure it kept it. If it was read only, your changes will not be done.
Did you started gmax with it ?
It will ask you to choose your rendering software driver just before gmax actualy executes. If it didn't , then you did something wrong. Have you tried the other methods ?

You will have to be more specific in your explanations.
When you say none of the chosen rendering drivers work and that GMAX doesn't start, I assume you mean you get the pop-up to choose the rendering driver but when you choose any and click OK, GMAX doesn't show up, right ?
If this is not how it happens, then how ?
If this is how it happens, then what is your system configuration ?

"the choosing rendering driver pop up, and all of the driver doesnt work. the installation failed popped up"
Sorry but I do not understand "and all of the driver doesn't work". What do you mean ?
What happens when you choose a driver ?
Does GMAX starts ?
What happens in GMAX when it starts after choosing a driver ?
Which Windows do you have ?
Do you have SP1, SP2 or none ?
How much memory ?
WHich DirextX version do you have ?
Is it a laptop or a desktop ?

Some questions you haven't answered :
What happens in GMAX when it starts after choosing a driver ?
Do you have SP1, SP2 or none ?
Also, which video card do you have ?
To find out which DirectX version you have, go in the START menu, then in the RUN menu, type dxdiag and click OK.

Hello: Listen, man, I am in the bigining of this. I do not know the program. Thus, I can not understand what you are telling me. I think you must put some images in order to guide me into the whole problem. However, I recognize your effort and help to clear mi ignorance. Thanks a lot, friend !!!... I have tried all three options for the video driver (HEIDI, OpenGL and Direct3D) but when I choose any of them, it comes up with 'Interactive 3D Renderer initialization failed' and then GMAX crashes to the Desktop. I have also tried the -H option but it doesn't make any difference, still asks me to choose the gfx driver then crashes whichever one I choose.
Config is a P4 1.8Ghz, 512Mb RAM and a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro with 32Mb GRAM. I know it's not a very good GFX card but I only want to do some basic modelling on this machine then transfer it to my better machine at home for finishing.
Cheers,
Gary
