animation not showing up in Trainz
Posted 28-Mar-2002 1:45 PM

Hey guys this is a great forum here, and glad we can discuss all things gmax and trainz! I have
a question though.

I am trying to do animations with trainz here and the thing works fine in gmax, but when I go into trainz and click on scenery the picture of it isn't there, only the name! I can place the thing
on the layout but it's invisible. Now of course I can view it just fine if I don't add a dummy to it for the animation. What am I doing wrong? Meletou's avi's clearly showed you can use dummies and not bones. Anybody have any info on this? Thanks!

Did you export in the correct file extension. I read about that, never tred to do an animation! Good luck!

I think that we are tending to cut our replies too short.

Firstly, all dummies must be created in the TOP viewport, and they must be named specifically as 'b.r.whatevername'. The exporter needs to have those 'b.r.' prefixes to determine that the dummy is a rotation point.

Secondly, to be safe create everything that you can in, including connecting rods, in the TOP viewport.

Also for animation to work correctly in Trainz, you need to make sure your unit of measure is set to metric.

Everything that moves needs to be linked to the dummy you're using to rotate (I usually call it b.r.round).

The dummy that moves and EVERYTHING else needs to be linked to the base dummy (b.r.main).

If you don't link everything to one dummy or the other they won't show up. We've done some animated content for trainz and if you want a Gmax file for study e-mail us at scapegoatspiegel@hotmail.com and we'll send you our windmill  (kuid:225064:401085) as it's a nice one for looking at linking.
