RenX problem
Posted 27-May-2002 7:34 PM

I know that this will probably never get answered because I didn't pay 20 bucks. But anyways...

I downloaded gmax, I have Renegade installed, and I installed the Renegade mod tools. Now when I go to open RenX it says it could not access the RenX.ink file. And it's pointing to the locoation D:\gmaxdev. What's going on here? Please help? Is RenX anything more than just gmax or what??????

hehe sounds like XP users...

Well it might be because gmax is not configured correctly on your system.

Check out your renX shortcut properties, and try to change the %GMAXLOC% for your gmax folder, ie: C:\Gmax\

that might solve your problem, though I might be wrong, as I don't know XP very well.

i have got windows ME, proven you wrong lol.... anywayz, i changed that %GMAXLOC% to C:\gmax\ but now it links to gmax ok... the RenX splash page dosent come up & then it says mtlgen.dll is missing. I'll try to fix this myself but more help would be nice

hmm.. that's odd.

Gmax might not be installed correctly ?

here's what your shortcut command line should look like:

%GMAXLOC%gmax.exe -a gamepacks\WestWood\RenX\splash.bmp -i gamepacks\WestWood\RenX\gmax.ini -p gamepacks\WestWood\RenX\plugin.ini

(on a single line, where %GMAXLOC% can be changed for C:\gmax if that's where it is installed)

I FIXED IT!

I had this problem too (the multigen.dlt thingy) and I found the solution. For some reason the 'RenX Properties menu' was looking for the gmax location in some separate ini file (I suppose?). What I did was replaced the %gmaxloc% thingy in the 'start in' area to the instalation directory, i.e. C:\Gmax\ . Then the %gmaxloc% located in the target box can be removed (dont remove the gmax.exe after it). Then it worked! it found multigen.dlt! I have been having this problem for about 6 months now and it has nearly made me pull my hair out! Thanks!

Maybe you downloaded the plugin for 3dmax instead of gmax ?
