This is a very high resolution model of the latest Seawolf Class Submarine, the SSN23, Jimmy Carter. The model was create for a two page print spread so the detail in the mesh and textures is fairly extreme. The Navy has released very little information on this submarine due to its confidential nature and what is known is reflected in the model. The model is a scale replica of the Seawolf Class submarine with a 100 ft. section spliced into the hull, aft of the sail. This section contains the special 'Wasp Waist' narrowed pressure hull which provides for the ocean interface for ROV. In the model, doors swing up, or can be removed to view the boats waist. Texturing and detailing were supplied from photos taken at the boat's roll-out. Also included are detailed models of the MK48 Torpedo, BG109 Sub-Launched Cruise Missile and the AGM-84 Harpoon Missile which form the Carter's weapons systems. An animatable ASDS (Advanced Seal Delivery System) and removable ASDS moorings are also included. Hull plating has been created by the Lightwave plug-in IFW2 and 3DS or Max users will have to find a suitable alternative. Much of the 'bump' detail is modeled but very large bump maps of extra detail are also included. A subsurface marine terrain and subpatch water surface are included in a scene file that accompanies this model for those using Lightwave.
An .obj version of the model is included as well.
