Description
This is a detailed and stylized pirate ship. It is very much an artistic representation of a pirate ship but it is based on the best ships of the Golden Age of Piracy and Hollywood. The detail is focused where it is visually useful so there are no wasted polygons in tiny parts that do not contribute visually to the model.

This pirate ship was created to look good, render quickly, and be easy to work with. There are a lot of options that allow you to customize the ship to your liking including modular creation, multiple material zones, and many textures for the flags, sails, etc…

This set includes the 3ds Max file as well as the OBJ and MAT files.

TEXTURES
There are over 80 textures in this product. In addition to Color, Normal, Displacement, Occlusion, and Specular Maps there are Alpha and Illumination Maps where needed.

The textures include many flag and sail variations.

Half of the textures are in the 2048x2048 range and a fourth are in the 1024x1024 range. The last fourth are 512x512 filler textures for tiling wood, metal and small details.

UV MAPPING
Some of the textures are tiled such as the filler wood and metal that cover much of the ship. There are several parts of the ship that are mapped with non-intersecting UV coordinates such as the flags and sails as well as the cabin and windows. UV templates are included for mapped areas of the ship.

SCALE
The ship is real world scale and uses feet and inches.

MESHES
There are about 45 separate meshes so the ship is easy to work with. You can work with only the parts you need to and hide the rest. You can hide high polygon meshes like the rigging as you work and unhide them when you need to.

MODEL ORIGIN
The main deck is at ground level.

SAILS
The sails are all slack by default. You can turn on and off the applied modifiers to make the sails billow. You can adjust the modifiers and animate them. You can also use the sails in a cloth simulation, they work well, but this set does not include the set up cloth simulation.

Sails are individual objects so you can apply a different sail texture to each. The materials are already set up in the 3ds Max file for each sail. The alpha with holes can be applied to any of the sail textures with good effect.

There is also a mesh for rolled sails. You can apply any of the sail materials to it.

FLAGS
There are many common pirate flag textures included.

CANNONS BELOW DECK
There are two meshes for the below deck cannons, one with hatches closed and one with hatches open and cannons out. The out version has cannon barrels sticking out of the ports with hatches fixed open. The closed version has all the hatches fixed in a closed position.

FIGUREHEAD
The figurehead is a separate object so you can remove or replace it.
