This rig file was last saved using Maya 2011, but it should work fine also with previous versions of Maya. Just remember to turn on the 'Ignore Version' check box in the 'open option box' when you open the file.

It is comprehensive of mental ray subdivision approximation, so you don't need to smooth it in viewport.
