History

The Horsa was built by Airspeed Limited and various subcontractors and its first flight was in September 1941. It could carry 30 troops and equipment and was larger than the American built Waco glider. Various aircraft types were responsible for towing the glider. Famous battles it took part in included the invasion of Sicily, the Battle of Normandy, Operations Tonga, Dragoon, Market-Garden, and Varsity. Over 3600 were built. The particular model provided with this purchase is a Mark I version which has D-Day stripes. The tail can be separated and a fine interior has been built. The Horsa I built is actually the Mark I model although I added in a Mark II feature in the form of a hinged nose section which can be seen in one of the screenshots. In order to be a true Mark II a second nose wheel would have to be added. The purchaser can add that detail if necessary to convert this from a Mark I to a Mark II.
