I wanted a skull that I could take apart and see the inside of. I don't believe there are any comparably priced skulls out there that have this feature, since those that do are usually created using 3D scanners. Considering that this was created using only 2-D images as reference, I think it turned out pretty well.
I used a bump map for the sutures to keep the poly count reasonable. I had to cheat them a bit so they would look right when the bones come apart, but the effect looks pretty close.
This skull was created to go along with my articulated human spine model.
