HMS Surprise A famous modern tall ship. It is also the ship in the movie 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World' -------------------------------- In order to know the model better, it's highly recommended that you download the preview video which is 1440*900 in resolution and 64 seconds in lengths. There is another video that is a wire render of the model. -------------------------------- Material: All materials are standard materials(no architectural,no composite, no blend, no procedural,no vray material) Important materials have Diffuse,Specular,Normalbump nodes. As only standard materials are used, you can easily increase the realisim of rendering by changing to Vray Materials or MentalRay materials. For example, the glass material used here is just simple white color with some opacity. There is a vray shader provided(but not in use) in the material editor that is the ocean shader. If you want to use it, just create a large enough plane and assign the shader to it. -------------------------------- texture file and resolution: 3*4096*4096; 8*2048*2048;2*1024*4096;5*1024*1024; 15*512*512; plus other small textures, total number of textures are 55 tga files at 236MB(113MB compressed). Textures is in a standalone package. Just download it and unzip it to the folder where the max file is.These textures support very closeup render for the model. -------------------------------- UV: two main object sets are unwrapped to make it sure it looks good across the board on the deck. Other parts are unwrapped so the textures flow correctly in other parts of the ship. Two 5000*5000 pixel checker render(ropes has proper uv,its just too dense a tile to see clearly in the 5000pixel render) provided and I highly recommend you download them to see. -------------------------------- render: Preview images are rendered with Vray renderer with Vray cameras, and a Vray Sun. Max version is devrayed(but a vray ocean shader is provided). To achieve same or better level of realism as in the preview images, just use any renderer that is capable of GI rendering. For Vray users, just throw in a Vray camera and a Vray sun , turn GI on and hit render.(uncheck 'Reflection/refraction environment override' in 'V-Ray::Environment' section in Vray if it is checked, otherwise, the ocean is kind of too dark) --------------------------------
