The Geneva Cam is often used to periodically advance a conveyer belt. The drive shaft rotates at a constant rate. The cam remains stationary for a portion of the rotation, and then advances. This will allow a machine to perform an operation on a part located on the conveyer, then when the operation is completed, the conveyer advances and the operation is performed on the next part.
