The model is in very high detail, all parts are independent. It is converted to Editable Mesh (or else it would take you a month to open it (not quite but certainly 30 minutes ) on a desktop computer). It cnsists of only raytraced materials, MAX's default plugin.
Made in 3DSMAX V5.00.

By the way: for rendering the last thumbnail it took (to my computer) about 8 hours, all details to maximum (AMD Duron (Morgan Core), VIA KT133, 256 MB DDR, 3DSMAX v5.00).
