Description
During the late 1940's there was a pressing need to replace the obsolete de Havilland Mosquito Nightfighter with a modern aircraft. It was suggested by Glosters that the successful Meteor day fighter could be adapted into a stop gap nightfighter until soething better like the Gloster Javalin was ready for service.

The development of a night fighter Meteor was handed over to Armstrong Whitworth's at Baginton. The Meteor NF11 was essentially a Meteor T7 with long span wings, the Meteor F8's squared off tail and a radar nose and became the RAF's front line night fighter.
