The development of a night fighter Meteor was handed over to Armstrong Whitworth's at Baginton. The Meteor NF11 was essentially a Meteor T7 with long span wings, the Meteor F8's squared off tail and a radar nose and became the RAF's front line night fighter. The Meteor NF 14 was the final operational version of the Meteor and replaced the Meteor NF11 in the night fighter role, being finally withdrawn from service in 1961.
