By creating individual meshes with quad and triangular polys, the result is a big improvement over a simple outline that is beveled (beveling doesn't handle sharp corners or narrow landmasses well). The other common approach is to simply extrude a spline and then apply a meshsmooth modifier. As the sample images show, this results in very ugly meshes with stretch marks that don't go away even when the poly count is greatly increased. The approach used in this model was a lot more work but results in nice smooth edges between the states and around every corner and inlet.

Individual states are separate meshes and can be lifted out or scaled up or down. This asset has just been updated to include Alaska & Hawaii.

The materials for the multicolored map are included. The other sample preview images use materials which are NOT included. You can easily make your own glass or metal materials and apply them.
