It comes in 3 level of detail meshes-
Hat Low- 208 vertices 212 faces
Hat Medium- 838 vertices 836 faces
Hat High- 3346 vertices 3344 faces

The polygons given on the specification box on the right remember are only for the low resolution mesh.

If you want the lower polygon meshes to be more smooth,
you can play around with the 3ds turbosmooth modifier or equivalent and then multires it down. However, this obviously will add polygons.
