.MAX and .OBJ formats were converted from the .MB file. Only Maya 2013 and Mental Ray version includes lighting and materials as seen in previews, but the translation to other platforms is 100% compatible (max has mental ray built-in). .max and .obj are without instance so you'll see a simple scene.
Note for Autodesk Maya users: because of the absolute path system used by maya you need to refresh all texture paths in the hypershade.
