xGen is a new feature in Maya 2015 and you can't use it in previous versions. Maya 2015 and higher ONLY!

No third party plugins were used, fur created with xGen grooming tool.

Real-world scale.
Clean topology with quad polygons only.
All objects properly named.

Model fully rigged and ready for animation.

Create new project. Copy downloaded folders into your project.
Open maya file.


ALTERNATIVE WAY (using .xdsc file)
Create new project.

Copy scenes and sourceimages folders ONLY!

Open scene.

Select object 'body' (can select in viewport).

Open xGen Window and press 'Import Description' or go to menu Animation -> xGen -> Import Collections or Descriptions, in opened window select 'Description' menu.

Browse file and select '.xdsc', with selected option 'Bind Selected Geometry', set name 'collection', press 'Import'.

xGen will create folder 'xgen' in your project's folder, owerwrite this folder with downloaded archive.

go to File -> Import Grooming, set path for 'groom' folder, press 'Import'.

Save project. Re-open project (you need to do this, because xGen not updating some settings and will not render fur before file closed).
For faster viewport appearance you can hide 'Plugin Shapes' in 'Show' menu.
