This model has been modeled with a clean topology based on quads and edge loops where needed.

NOTE (shave and haircut):
The Fur is made with Shave and A Haircut for Maya 2009 so you would need that Maya plugin to render the fur out.
The actual Shave and Haircut setup is of 150k (with a multistrand of 3) hair primitives and has been rendered on a system based on 8GB Ram and Winx64 (about 4 minutes to render those scenes out 1200X1200)
You can decrease the hair primitives to avoid memory issues or increase them for a better quality as long as you have enough memory.

The Shave and Haircut Fur setup is included in all the MAYA formats.
The OBJ and FBX formats don't include the Shave and Haircut Fur, but are included hair curves created by hair primitives (maya 2009 .ma) so you can use them as guides if you' re using a different Fur/Hair plugin.
